NAIST2010 Traveling to USC

Travel

The 2010 School will be held on the USC University Park Campus. Directions and a campus map can be found on the Visit USC page.

There are several airports in the Los Angeles area. USC is approximately 30-40 minutes from either the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) or the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank (BUR). To reach USC from these airports, a taxi, an airport shuttle, or public transportation may be used. We recommend using either a taxi or an airport shuttle, the public transportation option is tricky, especially in the late afternoon, evening, or on Sunday.

Information on ground transport for the LAX and BUR airports can be found by clicking on:

When scheduling your return flight, keep in mind that the school will finish at 3:00pm on Aug. 8.

Taxi

Taxis are the quickest and easiest way to get to USC. From LAX or BUR  airports a taxi will take between 30-40 minutes depending on traffic. Rates from LAX and BUR airport are about $50 and $65, respectively. To check rates and get a map, enter LAX and 920 W. 37TH PL. (or BUR and 920 W. 37TH PL.) on the web site Taxiwiz. (The address 920 W. 37TH PL. is where the USC Housing is located.)

To lower your costs, it's best to organize a shared ride with one or more of your fellow students. To help you with this, please click on "Taxi Sharing Board" and enter your information to coordinate your arrival with other attendees. (The Taxi Sharing Board is visible only after you log in).

On the first day (Wednesday Aug.4) you will have to obtain a permit for $8 from the guard at the gate at which you enter (on Wednesday Aug. 4 only, you can reduce your cost to $5 by telling the guard that you are part of the School of Information Theory group). This permit will be valid only until early morning on Thursday, so you will have to collect a permit from the organizers on Wednesday evening for the remaining four days at a cost of $32. We will buy only 4-day permits and you must inform us at before July 5 whether you will need a 4-day permit. You must then pay us the $32 upon arrival, whether you need the permit or not, i.e., cancellations are not accepted after July 5.
