Toby Berger was born and raised in New York City. He received his Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Yale University in 1962 and his PhD degree in applied mathematics from Harvard University in 1966. At Harvard, he studied with Don Tufts. Among Tufts’ students, others known in this community are John Proakis and Terry Fine. The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area International Workshop on coding and data storage took place on Jun. 18-19, 2022 at the University Town International Hotel in Guangzhou. This workshop was jointly organized by Guangdong University of Technology and the IEEE Information Theory Society Guangzhou Chapter.

Report on the 2022 JTG/IEEE ITSoc Summer School
The 13th edition of Joint Telematics Group/IEEE Information Theory Society Summer School on Signal Processing, Communications, and Networks was conducted from 20th to 23rd June 2022 at the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi in the virtual mode.
The 2022 IEEE European School of Information Theory (ESIT) was held July 4-7, 2022, at Technische Universität (TU) Wien in Vienna, Austria, and was hosted by the Institute of Telecommunications. The school returned to an on-site format (after the previous virtual school due to COVID-19) to take full advantage of the community experience through on-site plenary lectures and online tutorials, interactive poster sessions for participants, and social events in scenic Vienna.
