Data Science @ Uni Wien is a new research platform at the University of Vienna that presents a hub on all activities in data science at the University of Vienna. We have openings for five enthusiastic PhD students to establish an interdisciplinary research environment. The PhD students will be hosted in one of the faculties of Computer Science, Mathematics, or Business, Economics and Statistics.

Job Description:
Participation in research, teaching and administration:
- Participation in research projects / research studies
- Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations
- We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months.
- Supervision of students
- Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums
- Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
Profile:
A university or college degree (at least a Masters degree or equivalent): a degree in computer
science, mathematics, statistics, or similar although knowledge of data analysis basics is a core
requirement. In addition, we are looking for candidates with:
● Excellent command of written and spoken English
● High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
● Very good people skills
● Ability to work independently / creatively
● Ability to work in a team.
The following additional skills are of great value:
● Good programming skills (C++, Java, Python, R, or Matlab)
● Good math and stats skills
● Knowledge and interest in one of the application areas (Astronomy, Digital Humanities,
Finance, Industry 4.0, Medical Science)
