The Mathematics of Networks and Systems at Bell Labs-Research in Murray Hill, New Jersey, USA, invites applications for a regular member of the technical staff position in information sciences. The Department consists of over 20 staff members with expertise in information theory, stochastic networks, network economics, applied cryptography and algorithmic sciences.
Candidates will have a strong and proven background in information theory and related fields and a natural interest in applying fundamental tools in focused problem areas. Applicants with experience in quantum error correction and fault-tolerant quantum computation are also considered.
The successful applicant will conduct research in information theory, and its applications to emerging networks and data science. Primary duties and responsibilities:
- Perform research in information theory disciplines, such as coding theory, network coding, compressive sensing, network information theory, and graphical models
- Present research findings through papers and oral presentations both within the organization and to the external research community
- Apply expertise in information theoretic and fundamental tools to problems in emerging networks or data science
- Be willing to participate in new application areas that arise in communications and networking businesses and participate in team efforts
The position is expected to be filled by early 2015. Candidates must either hold a recent PhD in EE, math, or CS or may be in the final year of study or completing postdoctoral terms.
