On Thursday April 7th we will welcome Princeton University Professors William Bialek (Professor in the physics department), Vincent Poor (Professor in the School of Engineering ) & Nobel Laureate Christopher Sims (Professor in the Economic Department) to our theater for screening and post film discussion of the 2018 Documentary THE BIT PLAYER about mathematician Claude Shannon.

About the movie: In a blockbuster paper in 1948, mathematician Claude Shannon introduced the notion of a “bit” and laid the foundation for the information age. His ideas ripple through nearly every aspect of modern life, influencing such diverse fields as communication, computing, cryptography, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, cosmology, linguistics, and genetics. This documentary tells the story of an overlooked genius who revolutionized the world, but never lost his childlike curiosity.
