2018 IEEE European School of Information Theory (ESIT), May 7-11
The European School of Information Theory (ESIT) is an annual educational event, organized by the IEEE Information Theory Society, for graduate students from institutes throughout Europe and beyond. The objective of the school is to provide the students with the opportunity (i) to learn from distinguished lecturers by attending long-format tutorials, (ii) to present their own work to obtain feedback and to start up collaborations, (iii) to hear about applications of information theory in industry, and (iv) to participate in a stimulating and inviting forum of scientists.
Topics of the school include Shannon Theory, coding theory, source coding, applied probability and multi-user communications, among others. The scheduled tutorial lecturers are:
Marco Chiani (University of Bologna)
János Körner (University La Sapienza, Rome)
Olgica Milenkovic (University of Illinois)
Emre Telatar (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne)
Richard Wesel (University of California, Los Angeles)
Moe Z. Win (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)

Poster sessions
One of the goals of the European School of Information Theory is to promote interaction and collaboration among students. To this end, all students are required to present their work in a poster presentation. Students who have just started their doctoral studies and have not yet obtained publishable results may also present the topic chosen for their thesis (including state-of-the-art and preliminary results).
Important: The posters will be located on panels that are 1 meter wide and 2 meters in height - please consider this while preparing your poster.
Posters will be presented in two separate sessions (Tuesday afternoon and Thursday afternoon). We will distribute the allocation of posters during the first day of the school.

Venue
This year's school is taking place in Bertinoro, a small historical Italian town located in the Emilia-Romagna (Italy). Bertinoro is a medieval village immersed in the typical landscape of the Appennini foothills. Just at one hour drive from the international airport of Bologna, Bertinoro is surrounded by renowned wineries. The venue of the school is the University Residential Centre of Bertinoro hosted in the castle of Bertinoro (http://www.ceub.it/). A shuttle service to/from Bologna airport will be operated to facilitate the arrival of the guests.
ITSoc Italy Section Chapter Meeting
A meeting of the ITSoc Italy Section Chapter has been scheduled on Friday, May 11th, 2018, in the afternoon. The meeting will be hosted at CeUB. During the meeting, ITSoc Distinguished Lecturer Prof. Navin Kashyap (Indian Institute of Science di Bangalore) will give a seminar titled " The Communication Complexity of Secret Key Generation ". For information about this event, please refer to Marco Dalai ([email protected]), Enrico Paolini ([email protected]), Franco Chiaraluce ([email protected]). All students registering to ESIT are welcome to attend Prof. Kashyap's seminar.
