The 2020 IEEE Information Theory Workshop (ITW) will be held in Riva del Garda from 11–15, April 2021. The Center for Science of Information (CSoI) invites applications for its CSoI Postdoctoral Research Fellows program to work with Wojtek Szpankowski, CSoI Director. CSoI seeks a postdoctoral researcher to work on broad intersections of information theory, machine learning, combinatorics, and design and analysis of algorithms.

Jorma J. Rissanen passed away on May 9, 2020. Dr. Rissanen was a renowned information theorist with seminal contributions in source coding and was the 2009 Shannon Award winner of the IEEE Information Theory Society.

Alon Orlitsky wins the Claude E. Shannon award for consistent and profound contributions to the field of information theory. He will deliver his Shannon lecture at ISIT 2021.

The Aaron D. Wyner Distinguished Service Award of the IT Society has been instituted to honor an individual who has shown outstanding leadership in, and provided long-standing, exceptional service to, the Information Theory community.

The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding achievement in research and teaching by young scholars in the Information Theory community. The award is named in honor of James L. Massey, who was an internationally acclaimed pioneer in digital communications and a revered teacher and mentor to an entire generation of communications engineers. He was one of the outstanding researchers and leaders of the IEEE Information Theory Society over a period of 50 years.

The Joint Communications Society/Information Theory Society Paper Award recognizes outstanding papers that lie at the intersection of communications and information theory. Any paper appearing in a ComSoc or IT Society publication during the previous three years is eligible for the award.
