Biography

Y . -W . Peter Hong received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University , Taipei, Taiwan, in 1999, and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University , Ithaca, NY, in 2005. In the fall of 2005, he joined the Institute of Communications Engineering/Department of Electrical Engineering in National Tsing Hua University , Hsinchu, Taiwan, where he is currently an Assistant Professor. He was also a visiting scholar at the University of Southern California during June-August of 2008.

 

His research is focused on cooperative communications, MAC-PHY cross-layered designs, communications, and signal processing for sensor networks, eg. distributed detection, estimation, and statistical learning.

 

Dr. Hong received the best paper award for young authors from the IEEE ITSOC Taipei Chapter & COMSOC Taipei/Tainan Chapter in 2005. He also received the Fred Ellersick Award for the best unclassified paper in MILCOM 2005, which is entitled Dense sensor networks are also energy efficient: when 'more' is 'less' . In 2009, he received the Junior Faculty Research Award from the College of EECS.

 

Dr. Hong is currently serving as the TPC Track Co-Chair of VTC2010-Spring for the track on “Cognitive Radio and Cooperative Communications” and is also the Publication Co-Chair of the conference. He is also the Publicity Chair of ISITA/ISSSTA 2010 and the TPC Co-Chair of WASN 2009. Dr. Hong has also served as TPC members for ICC 2009, 2010; Globecom 2007; 2009, 2010; WCNC 2009; APSIPA ASC 2009; RWS 2008, 2009; ChinaCom 2008, 2009; IWCMC 2009; MWCN 2007, 2008; IWASN 2006, 2007.
